Flash Past - Crystal Palace v Arsenal (EPL)

Morning Folks!

Been spending all my leisure time playing PS3 and I must say my FIFA form is a sine wave, unlike Arsenal’s current form. Though we lost against Dortmund 3 days back, our PL form is still good and we have been unbeaten since that Villa loss. We have a great chance to put the loss against Dortmund behind as we will be up against a team currently in the relegation zone. The last time we played palace was in 04-05 and this is what happened:

Lineup Then:
Crystal Palace
Starting XI : Kiraly – Granville – Popovic – Boyce – Sorondo* – Watson – Riihilahti – Hughes – Routledge* – Johnson – Kolkka*

Subs : Speroni – Leigertwood* – Lakis* – Freedman* – Torghelle

Arsenal
Starting XI : Lehmann – Cole – Lauren – Cygan – Toure – Vieira – Pires* – Ljunberg* – Fabregas* – Reyes - Henry

Subs : Almunia – Senderos – Flamini* – Bergkamp* – Van Persie*

*subbed players

Blast from the Past:
It was not a great day for the Invincibles as they were expected to get all the 3 points, but ended up with just 1. Arsenal’s goal was scored by the King after the hour mark and within two minutes, Crystal palace equalized, courtesy Toure. Johnson made maximum use of the mistake and scored to make it 1-1 and that’s how it stayed till the final whistle blew.

Current Mood:
Crystal palace have sacked their manager Ian Holloway due to their poor run of form. They are ranked 19th in the table and their only win came against Sunderland who stand 20th. The club is interested in appointing Tony Pulis. If this happens, then brace yourselves, for Rugby is about to come back to the Premier League.

Arsenal had a prolific game against Norwich, but got bossed around for most of the match by Dortmund. The gunners would want to bounce back with a good win and get back on track for the Capital One Cup game against Chelsea next week.

Injury List:
Crystal Palace
Hunt (Ankle), McCarthy (Fitness), Williams (Ankle), Murray (Knee)

Arsenal
Walcott (Abdomen), Oxlade (Knee), Podolski (Hamstring), Diaby (Knee)

Predicted Lineup:
Crystal Palace
Chamakh, the beast Arsene created (I am actually LMAO while I am writing this :D) , is likely to start the game this week along with Gayle up front and the rest will be the same.

Speroni – Ward – Mariappa – Delaney- Moxey – O’keefe – Jedinak – Puncheon – Campana  – Gayle - Chamakh

Arsenal
Arsenal will look to rest Ramsey who has been playing continuously this season. Wilshere has taken a knock and Flamini is back so he will be replacing Wilshere and pairing with Arteta in the middle of the park. Cazorla is very likely to start the game with Giroud up front, Özil in the hole, and Gnabry/Rosicky on the right instead of Ramsey. I am also expecting Bendtner to get some minutes in the second half once we are in a comfortable position and maybe a bit of rest for Gibbs too. Flamini is the only player remaining from the squad that faced Crystal palace for last time

Szczesny – Sagna – Mertesacker – Koscielny – Gibbs – Arteta – Flamini – Cazorla – Gnabry – Özil - Giroud

Talisman:
Crystal Palace
Puncheon will be the talisman for them, playing from the center of the park and looking to create chances for Gayle and Chamakh.

Arsenal
Though Giroud hasn’t scored in the last 4 PL games, he has contributed assists and has a total of 4 goals and 4 assists so far in the league this season. His contribution on the field and his importance to the team is highlighted by his layoffs, his delicate touches, his intelligent movement and most importantly, his assists. The fact that his 4 assists so far puts him at the top of the charts is a remarkable improvement from last season when he had all of 3 assists in 38 games and is playing a huge role in our performance this season. Expect him to continue the good work and score as well as assist more

Score line Prediction:
Last week, my prediction was right according to the goal difference. This time I’m going for a strong 2-0 victory over Palace

Come on you Gunners!!

One Aaron Ramsey

The 22 year old Welsh midfielder has been on hot form lately. "Player has no significant weaknesses" from his characteristics at WhoScored just sums it up.

From the characteristics, we can easily understand the amount of work that he does both offensively and defensively. He is Arsenal's top scorer as of now and has an 85% success rate in tackles (from squawka). He also tops the list of successful tackles made in the EPL so far; 5 ahead of West Brom's Yacob.

Aaron Ramsey's goal against Norwich showed his supreme confidence at the moment. It was a well taken goal and no easy feat. He has answered all his critics with his performance on the pitch and that's what matters.

The improvement of Aaron Ramsey's all round game play is astounding and can only get better. With the support of the likes of Wilshere, Ozil, Arteta,Flamini etc.., Arsenal's midfield is quite dynamic and entertaining (The entertainment bit was sort of missing last season as Arsenal was hanging on to leads instead of a stroll in the park).

From the start of 2013, I guess Wenger has been devising a new method. And through the summer, we were able to keep our best players, trim away the dead weight and make some fine additions. It all started with that match against eventual Champions League winners Bayern Munich at their ground. A defense first strategy ensured Arsenal finished at 4th place last season. This season has been more or less the next step to  perfecting the game from solid platform from last season's end.

Flash Past - Arsenal v Norwich [EPL]

Good morning Lads!

EPL is finally back after what felt like a decade. Yes, I am talking about the inter-lull and the next one is not very long away. My favorite national team, England have qualified for the 2014 World Cup and that's that. For now, lets concentrate on our game this weekend against the Canaries at the Emirates. Our last two games were both away from home and we are back to play at home this week. Let's rewind back a season and look at the interesting things that happened between the same sides.

Lineup Then:

Arsenal

Starting XI : Fabianski, Sagna, Vermaelen, Koscielny, Gibbs, Arteta, Wilshere, Ramsey, Cazorla, Gervinho, Giroud

Subs : Mannone, Jenkinson, Monreal, Coquelin, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Walcott, Podolski

Norwich

Starting XI : Bunn, Martin, Bassong, Turner, Whittaker, Howson, Johnson, Tettey, Snodgrass, Kamara, Holt

Subs : Camp, Garrido, Bennett, Fox, Jackson, Becchio, Bennett

Blast from the Past:

Norwich were on the verge of doing a double over Arsenal after Turner scored a goal in the second half. Arsenal looked jaded until then and they picked up after that. Arsenal was lucky on that day.. Very much I would say. The strange comeback started with a penalty which was given by the linesman rather than referee for a push on Giroud. Arteta kept his cool and equalized in 85th minute from the resulting penalty. That spurred Arsenal to force up the field for a winner and it came after Ox’s low cross was tapped in by Giroud after 3 minutes. It was not over yet. This was followed by Poldi’s goal and Arsenal were lucky as the linesman failed to notice Walcott offside before he assisted Poldi. That is 3 goals under 6 minutes. All around, it was a mix of a bad first half, a decent second and bit of well deserved luck! And, the man of the match was none other than Aaron! J

Highlights of the match is available here.

Current Mood:

Arsenal’s winning run of 10 games ended after a draw against west brom a couple of weeks ago but their run of 16 games without failing to score a goal is still on. After the recent international break, Arsenal have to build the momentum again, especially when the matches are lined up as Dortmund, Crystal Palace, Chelsea, Liverpool, Dortmund, Man Utd.

Norwich gave a run for our money last season but this time around they are coming back to Emirates with a defeat against Chelsea and they are lurking at the relegation zone. That says it all.

Injury List:

Arsenal

Walcott(abdomen), Oxlade(knee), Podolski(hamstring), Diaby(knee)

Santi, Rosicky, Özil and Sagna are all considered fit after their respective knocks/injuries.

Norwich

Elliot Bennett(knee), Pilkington(doubtful), Elmander(doubtful)

Predicted Lineup:

Arsenal

We expected Walcott to return along with Cazorla but that isn't the case. He is still out for 2 more weeks, which means more playing time for Gnabry. He can replicate his performance against Swansea to help himself and the team. Cazorla will be starting after a long time and the last game that he played was before we signed Özil. I’m also one of those gooners who is waiting to see the Özil-Cazorla combination in the midfield and that could happen very much this weekend. All other positions will be filled with our usual starters, pushing Arteta back to bench. Vermalen, our original captain, has started feeling insecure about his first team chances and would like to start the match against Norwich. Wenger has the final say though.

Norwich

Can’t expect much of a change from the side that was defeated by Chelsea at home. Only possible couple of changes could be Whittaker replacing Olsson and Redmond stepping in for Pilkington

Key Players

Arsenal : Giroud will be the key player. He scored 3 goals for France during the break and he will try to carry the same form for Arsenal as well. He hasn’t scored in the last 3 PL matches and he will want to end that drought. With services of Ramsey, Cazorla, Özil, Gnabry, he should be able to score at least 1 goal.

Norwich : If Giroud is the key man for Arsenal, Wolfswinkel will be the key player for the Canaries. Playing away from home against a bigger side would mean less chances to score goals, though Wolfswinkel can make the difference and score one to hurt Arsenal.

Scoreline Prediction:

I’m expecting a neat 3-0 win for Arsenal with an overall good performance from the Wenger's side.

Come on you Gunners!

My Reactions After : WBA vs Arsenal (EPL)

For the last match before the international break, Arsenal travelled to the hawthorns again, this time for a premier league fixture. Not more than two weeks ago, we had travelled to the same stadium for a league cup tie where our young guns came out smiling with a hard fought victory after penalties.

Being a Premier league fixture, this trip had the regular first team players in action. Having defeated the defending champions Manchester United at Old Trafford after 29 years, West Bromwich were not short of confidence by any means. We have also been having a good run and this was a contest between 2 teams which were confident, and in form.

First half kicked off. It seemed a better start than their previous meeting in the cup tie and both the teams were going at each other. Arsenal's fatigue was noticeable and they were torpid. We spent the first quarter of the game trying to win the battle of the crowded midfield than creating chances to score a goal.

First shot at goal was from the Baggies and it was taken by supposed Arsenal target Saido Berahino. The shot took a deflection, but Wojo was alert and made a good save. Flamini got yet another yellow for an untimely tackle on Amalfitano, leaving him one card away from a game suspension.

The first goal came in the 42nd minute when the baggies won back-to-back corners attacking through gunners’ left flank. All the pressure built by West Bromwich paid off with a header guided into the goal by Yacob. Initially the corner was defended with a short clearance which didn't give enough time for the defenders to regroup. Amalfitano put in a cross which found unmarked Yacob, and punished arsenal for some sloppy defending with a well guided header. West Brom led the game at halftime by a goal to nil.

Wilshere had a very poor first half. Looked weak at times out on the left and didn't offer enough width. Many mistimed tackles and lost possession very often. Everyone expected Wenger to take him off after a bizarre first half by the English lad.

Starting the second half with a goal behind, Arsenal had a lot of work to do to go past the resilient Baggies. Arsenal’s defence was exposed a couple of times, but the baggies couldn't capitalise, Anelka being the culprit on both occasions. For the first one, Berahino's fancy footwork took him past the defenders and he passed to Anelka who missed the easiest of chances. The second one was a shot curled outside of the post by Le Sulk again.

For Arsenal, Wilshere had a chance inside the box, but it was stolen by a good tackle from behind. Though it looked like a penalty at first, replays showed that the referee got that one right in a day of bizarre decisions against us. Our talisman Rambo had an off-day and when he went down with a troubled knee, all gooners around the world had their hearts in their mouths. It didn't look bad and he was up and playing before being replaced by Rosicky.

As mentioned earlier, Jack had a very poor game, but his determination was evident in the second half and he got us the much needed equalizer.  Ozil, was the one who started the move by getting possession back from the baggies and fed the ball to Giroud. Now, Giroud this amazing ability to hold off defenders and provide delicate first touches and he threaded a good ball to Rosicky. Rosicky's job was simple - pass the ball to Jack who stuck a low volley, much to the joy of the travelling fans at Hawthorns and millions of gooners watching around the world.  Though Myhill’s foot helped deflecting Wilshere’s shot towards goal, the strike was venomous and on target.

Wilshere's goal against WBA

The game was far from over, with both teams missing chances at either end. Berahino continued to trouble Arsenal and Wojo was forced to make a save by Billy Jones’ screamer. At the other end, Giroud had a very good chance when he was fed with a superb chipped through ball by Wilshere, only to be saved by the keeper in the end. Last quarter of the game could have led either of the teams to victory, but was destined to end at 1-1 and that's how it did.

Both teams had contrasting approaches with the baggies creating goal scoring opportunities from set pieces while the gunners mostly relied on counter attacks. Poor finishing meant that a decent game finished with a decent point a piece.

Berahino was the best player on the pitch for West Brom whereas Ozil was brilliant in the second half for Arsenal. Jack had a game of completely different halves. Le Sulk and Jenkinson were the flops of the match, the former for missing easy chances and the latter for some poor defending and Yacob's goal.

We still remain at the top of the table going into the break and all that we can do now is pray that none of our lads get injured and wait for the return of Santi, Theo and Poldi. A midfield of Rambo, Flamini, Santi, Ozil and Theo should strike fear in all the other teams and is a mouthwatering prospect for purists and gooners all around.

No Country for old men?

One thing which most of you would have noticed , when a team is winning or is on a good run the blogs/articles come thick and fast(specially from the fans) praising the team spirit and the quality of the squad, I being no exception to this trend have decided to right a piece on the current squad .

So here goes my first blog , from 2013 Feb we started a good run of games after Bayern Munich literally swept the Emirates floor with our team , tough day , Jack was crying during the interview . He seemed like the only leader and world class player among our ranks . That was a big blow to our ambitions, however we bounced back and played the entire season after that like something was on stake . That raised the expectations of the fans and the players , every fan wanted a big signing and the players were never shy in admitting that the squad can do with some revamp . The less I talk about the Aston Villa game the better .However keeping the past  performances aside  I would like to throw some light on the current squad members and the mellowness they have brought about to the team .

Stats correct as of 30th Sept(courtesy Arsenal.com

If we compare the current Arsenal squad with the Man Utd squad(yeah, they are going through a lean patch lets bash em!!) The core of the Man Utd team is on the wrong side of thirties Vidic,Evra,Ferdinand,Carrick,Giggs,Van Persie(heh, intentionally added him ) are in the twilight of their careers. That’s where we pipe them.

We are no pushovers now for the big boys,”Go hard on them they can’t dish out any of it” well well well try tackling us now!! Tackle Jack 5 times and he will still survive (Godfather part 1 comes to mind)  ,gone are the days of 2008-09  when we were infamously  labeled as “Boys”, be very scared now opponents because these so called boys have grown up . Let’s take an example of Jack smoking in public, a couple of seasons ago that would have had dire affects but now that we have players who can fill in his position and the other being our good run of form this incident can be put to cold bag .Smoke on Jacky boy(Ah well!).

We are looking more confident after we score and our defense can hold the fort, however that was not the case a few seasons ago .When the opponents were throwing the kitchen sink during the last minutes we pushed back like scared b*tches, last but not the least we are truly playing “Wengerball” and we know that when Arsene’s philosophy is put into practice not even Barcelona have an answer.

GoalKeepers:
This is a position which has been under scrutiny over the past decade or so, Szczesny 23, is still learning the trade and sometimes his concentration level and decision making may not be up to the mark but his commitment can never be questioned. He has thrived on the settled central defensive partnership of Per and Kos, seems like they have formulated a good understanding among them. The new signing Viviano 27 , can prove to be a shrewd bit of business but he has to wait and take his opportunity whenever it comes . Fabianski 29’s, career has been marred with injuries, he blew hot and cold ever since he joined us , I believe he will look for greener pastures come June . I would have been satisfied had we signed Schwarzer from Fulham as he could have added valuable experience.

Central Defenders:
The average age of our defenders is 27 year , the defenders generally are at the peak of their game during the late 20s. Age plays a very important factor in this position, the level of understanding, commitment and focus comes with experience . The likes of Nesta,Vidic,Puyol,Baresi ,Adams,Cannavaro and Moore all enjoyed their best years during the late 20s . Per is 29 , Koscielny 28 and Vermaelen 27  those are really good numbers . We have a set of defenders who are at the prime of their game.

When Arsene joined Arsenal ,he inherited a set of experienced and world class defenders namely Bould,Keown,Adams,Winterburn,Dixon they played a vital role in Arsene’s instant success. Bould is still here and has done a plausible work with our defence. A wise guy once said “Matches are won by scoring goals but titles are won by defending “ .The maturity and good decision making of the defenders help the goalkeeper , it’s that early shout that makes a difference between a win and a loss .Koscielny , Per and Vermaelen have played together for quite some time . Having played together for  a reasonable amount of time, they know which one of them should  go for a tackle and when to fall back , more so the understanding between Per and Kos has started bearing fruits . I have a huge confidence in Vermaelen though , he is a born leader , injuries and playing out of position have not helped him but we can notice that Arsene holds him in great regards ,he trusts him and has given him the coveted Captain’s armband . I feel the best is yet to come from the central defender’s partnership.

Full backs :
In modern game every player has to contribute ,the full backs are no exception . The first priority is to keep a clean sheet the other being to assist the attacking players and  occasionally chipping in with some goals.
We have EPL’s most promising left back pairing in Gibbs and Nacho , the right back positions being held by Sagna and Jenkinson , I gotta say that we have the exact recipe for a title winning team here. Gibbs is 23 , Jenkinson 21 and then we have  experienced lads in Sagna 30 and Nacho 27 both full time internationals . Both positions have a mentor and a young enthusiastic apprentice , Arsene can easily choose if he needs solid defence , generally away from home or an attacking threat out wide with fullbacks overlapping and creating havoc in the opposition half .

Central Midfielders :
Central mid is the heart beat of the team, everything passes through them . The players playing in this position  should possess class and tenacity, aggression and astuteness. When we talk about experience we have lads like Arteta 31(but hairs still perfect),Flamini 29,Rosicky 33(his “footballing age” is 31 though, atleast he thinks the same about himself, hah!!),Cazorla 28, Diaby 27( oh heck!!) on the other hand we have promising youngsters in Ramsey 22,Jack 21 and a world class player in Ozil  24.

Foul Jack and Flamini is there to snatch your eyes , raise a finger on Ozil and Arteta comes out of the blue to calm things down . We can dictate the tempo of difficult games away from home now that we have an experienced head who knows when to start a counter and when to play keep ball. Nonetheless the ability of the youngsters coupled with the experience which the older folks have transferred to them is priceless and we are reaping rewards for the same .

Flamini has been a revelation since he joined us and I don’t know how many times he has watched “The day of the jackal “, he has displayed the hunger and what it takes to play for the shirt and the fans have again taken him to their hearts .

Our midfield is currently the best in the premier league and has the right balance, the players go together like a house on fire.Enticing when we think about it “Flamini wins the tackle and passes to Arteta who playes a long ball to Cazorla ,upon crowded by 3-4 players  Cazorla shifts the ball to his right feet and passes to jack who in turn goes past 2 players as if they are not even there and brings Ozil into action who effortlessly squares it to Ramsey who has made a lung bursting run from midfield and boom!! “.

Forwards :
The incredibly handsome bloke from France is a work horse , he tries to win every header be it in the opposition’s box, half line or the Sebastian larrson-esque fizzed in crosses by the opponents , he is 26 year old and has grown leaps and bounds , he looks like a better finisher now and makes intelligent runs on and off the ball , he can pass , chip and flick ,oh darn !! his link up play is awesome,If you give him a birthday gift he will pass it back.

Walcott ,24 has started showing maturity , enough of  “I will play in the center and take all the set pieces “  thing, having players like Pires and Thierry around in training does have its good affects . Seems like he has worked a lot with the long balls coming from midfield , previously he used to miss the first touch when those kind of balls were delivered , now I am beginning to see a lot of improvement specially in his finishing.

Podolski, 28 the guy with a boyish grin and by far the loudest guy in the dressing room AHA! ,he always likes to share a joke or two, when on the pitch he knows what he is doing , his decision making is world class , one of the few guys who will like to have a shot from outside the box, this feature of his game has been accepted by many of our youngsters , we are now taking more shots from outside the box just to keep the defenders on the back foot and bang !! All of a sudden Giroud makes a near post run and smashes the ball into the net.

This will be a huge season for the Ox , 20 . Still learning from the likes of Theo and Santi , he can be a mixture of both and a truly class player. Sadly he is currently nursing a  long term injury , will like to see him comeback with all guns blazing .

One youngster who has benefited the most due the absence of Poldi,Ox and Theo is Gnabry ,18 . The calmness which he displayed when he slotted the ball into the net against Swansea defies his age , the German has already exhibited glimpses of maturity , he religiously tracks back whenever the opposition has the ball and always tries to bring a player in better position into the game .

Bendtner,Akpom,Ryo,Park(who is this guy?) and Sanogo will also play a part role in this campaign , I hope they take their opportunities .

In a nutshell, the foundation is solid and world class players want to come to Arsenal, we have got the most experienced Manager in the premier league and we are playing an attractive yet calculated brand of football, the next step will be to win silverware and starting the golden era again .
So long guys, Cheers.

Arsenal Times : Perfecting the Game

As we are in the midst of a football inter-lull due to the International break, let us take a look at the way Arsenal's performances in EPL matches have evolved during the last few seasons.

Rock Bottom
Lets start with the 2011-12 season. The season where we had a disastrous start, Arsenal were at one point at 17th in the league. Barring a few matches, scraped through and registered defeats against beatable opposition. It was mostly edge of the seat stuff as Arsenal's opponents were able to score 9 goals (EPL) in the last 15 minutes of games piling pressure on the defense.
Arsenal Goal Timings 2011-12

There was no guarantee that an Arsenal lead would turn into a full 3 points. There were moments of tension and nobody was sure if Arsenal could hold on. Lapses in concentration were frequent and opponents took their chances wisely.

Late Starters
This stat improved considerably for the 2012-13 season, as the opposition scored only 2 goals in the same duration with Arsenal scoring 18 of their own. There was a significant improvement in holding on to leads and seeing out games.
Arsenal Goal Timings 2012-13

The run that started after the win in Munich helped arsenal secure 4th spot at the expense of Tottenham. These results consisted of matches where arsenal won by 1 or 2 goals. Arsenal were prone to an opposition goal just before half time and just after the hour mark. And when opponents thought they gained a point or two, Arsenal would bang in the required amount of goals and see victory.

By the end of the season I was confident that Arsenal could hold on to leads and win matches. The entire team took upon defensive duties, Giroud's aerial presence was vital in many games as were the calm and commanding Mertesacker in the heart of defense. For most of the season, Arsenal had an average first half followed by a promising second half. This prompted Arsene Wenger to claim that "Arsenal would be top of the league if the second half results were alone considered". But a football match is not about the second half alone.

One game that comes to my mind is the Newcastle game at the Emirates. At half time, the score was 1-1 typically letting in a goal just before half time. Newcastle might have thought they had a chance, but were blown away in the second half. One of Theo's brightest performances resulted in a cracking 7-3 win for the home side.

Perfecting the Game
Arsenal started the 2013-14 EPL season with a demoralizing 1-3 defeat at home to Aston Villa. But from the next match on wards it was solid performance from the gunners. Arsenal the first to score most of the time taking the lead into the second half in which the excellent solid performance from the previous season prevailed. Arsenal seem to be more focused in the first half with converting chances and seeing out games in the second half. They are seemingly perfecting their game.

In-spite of all these, some individual errors and lapse in concentration contribute to defend-able opposition goals. We are not far from perfect, but that looks achievable with proper concentration and team work. Lets hope Arsenal can keep on improving from this solid platform through the season.

Flash Past - West Brom v Arsenal (EPL)

Another sunny day!

There is a weekend action waiting for us against West Brom at The Hawthorns. A fortnight ago, we played against the same club in COC which got us the win in a penalty shoot out. For now, lets flash past one season and look at our Premier league away game at the Hawthorns.

Lineup Then:

West Brom

Starting XI : Foster; Jones, McAuley, Olsson, Ridgewell, Yacob, Brunt, Dorrans, Morrison, Thomas, Long

Subs : Myhill, Lukaku, Popov, Brown, Rosenberg, Fortune, Tamas

Arsenal

Starting XI : Fabianski, Sagna, Mertesacker, Koscielny, Monreal, Arteta, Ramsey, Rosicky, Cazorla, Gervinho, Giroud

Subs : Mannone, Vermaelen, Jenkinson, Gibbs, Coquelin, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Podolski

Blast from the Past:

West Brom game is coming right after Swansea(A) just like last season if we can neglect the relegated club fixture[Reading(H)] between these two fixtures. Match ended with the scoreline 1-2. Thanks to Rosicky for his brace which actually won us the game. Good display in first half by Arsenal and in 2nd started pretty well to score the 2nd goal but West Brom didn’t give up so easily. They went for it and a long ball to Shane Long led to penalty because of a mistook tackle from Per Mertesacker. Arsenal were down to 10 men but the team held their fort to come out of Hawthorns with a win. Lukaku had a clear chance but he shot wide. It was Arsenal’s day!

Highlights of the match is available here..

Current Mood:

West Brom are not pushovers at all. They started the season pretty bad but they have upset the PL Champions, Manchester United, last week and positioned themselves 10th in the table.

Arsenal are in a win of 10 game(home & away) run in all competitions and havent failed to score in last 16 games in all competitions. Also, they are in a run of 12 game away win. As the away run is terrific, Arsenal could have an upper hand in this.

Injury List:

West Brom

Zoltan Gera – Doubtful(Hamstring) ; Chris Brunt – Doubtful(Groin) ; Ben Foster – Injured (Right foot Stress fracture) ; Scott Sinclair – Doubtful(Hamstring)

Nicolas Anelka, Shane Long, Morrison could all return after missing the Manchester United fixture

Arsenal

Sagna – Doubtful(Hamstring) ; Cazorla – Injured(Ankle) ; Oxlade – Injured ; Walcott – Injured(Abdomen) ; Podolski – Injured; Diaby – Injured(Where not?)

Santi was expected to return this week but the date has been pushed to post International Break.

Predicted Lineup:

West Brom

They could retain the same side that beat Manchester United at Old trafford with a couple of changes. Morrison and Long coming on for Yacob and Anichebe

Arsenal

Arsenal deployed a 5 man midfield against Napoli and the tactic worked out very well. With our wingers, Walcott, Oxlade, Podolski, Cazorla, still in medical bed, we could see the repeat of the same squad with just few changes expected.

At least one of our CBs will rest and a chance for Vermaelen may be given.

Talismen:

West Brom : With their confidence high on defeating the league champions, they will go for a win and the game will be more open. The Talisman for West Brom will be Sessegnon. He is the player to watch out for. Flamini was needed to hold off Hamsik in the Napoli game. Arsenal can again deploy Flamini to hold Sessegnon.

Arsenal : Ramsey on hot form in scoring and assisting goals in every match will be playing the key role in Arsenal team. He is sure to win a Arsenal’s player of the month and also Barclay’s.

Scoreline Prediction:

Arsenal have scored pretty early this season in 4 games out of 6 games they played so far. A quick start will get us the much needed win before the international break. I will go with 3-2 to the Gunners!

Come on you Gunners!

Hoping for the 3 points to go in the bag.. See ya!
